I am a biomedical science undergraduate at the University of Birmingham with a strong interest in pharmaceutical and research-driven environments. I have a solid grounding in biological sciences combined with applied laboratory study, data interpretation, and healthcare volunteering. I will bring a detail-oriented, analytical mindset alongside strong communication skills developed in clinical and customer-facing settings and am seeking an opportunity within the pharmaceutical industry, R&D, or laboratory-based roles to build practical experience and contribute to scientific innovation.
Prior to university I volunteered at my local hospital, where I got to work with a wide group of people. I worked with several teams, including the discharge lounge, the pharmacy and when I became more experienced, the ward staff. This taught me the importance of communication and teamwork across multiple disciplines of the hospital.
Toward the latter stage of my volunteering I was also selected to interview aspiring volunteers and even lead on some interviews. I also worked in a restaurant - despite it being a different environment the principles were the same as volunteering. It was imperative I was confident and friendly to my colleagues and customers, able to think critically under pressure and give and take feedback when necessary.
More relevant work experience includes my lab-based dissertation, which entailed an 8 week dry-lab project investigating B cell metabolism in sarcopenic and non-sarcopenia individuals. In that 8 weeks I learned to become more efficient and much more independent, using a complex protocol and equipment. I was able to build on my problem solving and critical thinking skills, which helped me navigate problems I ran into on the way.
Analysing my results also strengthened my data handling and data presentation skills.
