My practical experience working with vulnerable populations, including offenders an mental health care users at Circles South-East and Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, has hones my ability to provide effective psychological support and conduct comprehensive assessments. I am skilled in facilitating 1:1 and group interventions, using motivational techniques to encourage behavioral change.
With a passion for understanding the criminal mind and supporting rehabilitation, I am confident in my ability to contribute meaningfully as an assistant psychologist by applying my knowledge of mental health difficulties and recovery processes.
I have gained diverse experience in psychology through various roles, including as a Volunteer Coordinator at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, where I led therapeutic activities with mental health care users and managed volunteers. My work involved balancing support with accountability, conducting comprehensive assessments, and fostering positive interactions. Additionally, as a Circle Support Member with Circles South-East, I supported offenders reintegrating into society, helping them navigate the challenges of recovery and community reintegration.
I also have experience delivering both 1:1 and group interventions using motivational techniques.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (Honours in clinical psychology, 2:1) in Psychology from Stellenbosch University, where I studied psychotherapy, neuropsychology, family psychology, and research methods. I have just completed an MSc in Forensic Psychology at Goldsmiths University of London (2:1), focusing on areas such as law and crime, forensic investigation, assessment and intervention, and multivariate statistical analysis. My dissertation explores rapport building in investigative interviewing.
This educational foundation has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of psychological theories and research, particularly in the context of criminal justice and mental health.
