Project in the Genome Stability Lab supervised by Dr. Christine Schmidt on finding the substrates of ubiquitin-fold modifier 1 (UFM1) to gain molecular insights into UFMylation

• Develop biotinylated UFM1 probes by genetic code expansion using Click chemistry and adding unnatural amino acids in UFM1-/- cells
• Perform biotin-streptavidin pull-down assays to prepare for identification of UFMylation substrates and specific UFMylation sites by subsequent liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry
• Skills developed include cloning, polymerase chain reaction, HEK293T cell culture, lipo-transfection, Click chemistry, optimization, pull-down assays, EVOS microscopy, Western-blotting

Masters Experimental Skills Module at The University of Manchester (2024-02 – 2024-05)

Group project supervised by Dr. Thomas Millard on modelling a rare neurodevelopmental disease (OMIM#617751) in Drosophila

• Skills gained: Drosophila genetic crosses, handling Drosophila embryos, using a trikinetics activity monitoring system, fluorescent microscopy, ImageJ analysis, GraphPad PRISM
