I was a chef for 11 years and in 2008 I decided to change my career path. In June 2008 I started volunteering at a project called me2 a mencap project where we help young people and children with disabilities gain equal opportunities. I fell in love with the job and decided to apply at kids a center where we help children and young people with disabilities.
I am currently employed by kids and I have learned a lot and I am still learning. I have realized that I still have a passion for cooking and I am ready to go back into the catering industry. I am willing and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines and can lead a team.
I feel I am ready to start as a sous chef and work towards becoming a development chef.

My job role as a support practitioner was to support young people in every day living, guiding them and creating a home environment for the young people going into foster care. My job role is to consult with the young people and try and get the best achievable outcome. Other responsibilities was to be an advocate and work therapeutic environment, trying to raise self esteem and give young people confidence.
I feel it was my duty to help the young people understand it was not there fault and try and give them a better way of life. Also it was part of my duty to be a mentor, and a positive role model.

My role as a residential support worker was to ensure the running of the house, support young people and children in social setting ensuring they learn social skills, giving them opportunities helping them in economic well being working with them alongside ECM's. I had to transport them to their venues as they were vulnerable young people as they where in supported living ready to move on into foster homes. I had to write daily reports, log sheets maintaining the home and vehicles.
I had to administer medication and sleepovers as well as being on call.

My role is to help and support children young people with disabilities. I work with 80 children, young people and families with disabilities ranging from mild to severe disabilities, physical and mental disabilities such as autism, Asperger's, SLD (severe learning disability), MLD (Mild Learning disability) muscular dystrophy, cerebral pulse. My role is to support children and young people to achieve their individual goals, potential and develop their life skills.
As part of my role I work within the every child matters frame work and work alongside multi agencies. I also support young people and adults in the community by supporting them with their activities of daily living which will include the following travelling, paper work and shopping giving them confidence and independence. I have also had the opportunity of being involved in short breaks where we take a number of young people away on a short break where the learn through fun especially the young adults when they are going through the transitional period from childhood to adulthood.

My role as a head chef was to ensure the running of the kitchen was smooth the hygiene of the kitchen was up to health and safety standards, stock taking ordering. Manage a team of 7. Being a head chef gave me leadership qualities, team player where I was able to build my confidence of myself and other team members. I take pride in my work and enjoy achieving and learning.
