Healthcare assistant at Barchester healthcare (2018-09 – Present)

As a healthcare assistant it is important to have a good set of skills as there are new challenges every day. With these challenges it is important to be focused, a good listener and have a good memory as new changes are made every day which requires quick and efficient thinking. In my day to day work I am trained to support each individual with all tasks such as personal care, bathing/showering, toileting, mobility assistance and also meal assistance.

While carrying out these tasks it is important in my role to make the individual as comfortable as possible and maintain dignity and respect and involve the individual as much as they can be to help them feel independent and in control. Most importantly I hold a good set of qualities which I use every day in my job role as a care assistant. I am a kind, caring, patient individual with a lot of compassion and empathy.

It is important to build strong relationships with the people I look after and get to know them for them to trust me and know I'm there to support them and deliver the best person-centered care possible. I am also competent in filing necessary paperwork and documenting all important information.

Sales assistant at Morrisons (2013-05 – 2018-08)

Within my role here I worked in several roles such as a cashier, shop floor sales assistant and also worked in the bakery department as a cake shop decorator/bakery packer. Within this role it was important to hold good time management skills and to be approachable. I was always to appear well kept as I was serving the public and handling food and had to maintain hygiene and cleanliness standards within the workplace.

I was always helpful and attentive to generate good customer feedback. I was expected to maintain excellent visual merchandising and correct rotation of product to reduce waste and promote special offers to boost sales. Whilst working as a shop floor assistant I was trusted to process stock deliveries and track inventory records.

I also handled money in my time as a cashier processing cash and card payments during busy shopping periods to reduce waiting time of the customers.

This was my first job. I started this job in my fourth year of school as a weekend job to earn money to learn working skills and build my confidence. In my first few months of working here I worked as part of a team to learn how to do certain tasks such a serving the public and trained to reach the hygiene standard of the store as cleaning was a big part of the job and at the end of the shift I would learn from my team member how to cash up the register.

After being in the shop for some time I was asked to do a few shifts myself which required a lot of trust in me to do the job properly. I was taking on more shifts as I left school and was also working some weekdays as well as weekends to earn some extra money.

Responsibilities in this role were to serve customers, clean the front of shop and also cash up at the end of the day. The shop was in a local community which allowed me to build friendships with the regular customers that came into the shop which built up my confidence for larger tasks and made for good customer service.
