Darragh O'Loughlin

In 2021, I achieved a first-class honours in my bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Science which covered a wide range of different areas of math including actuarial science, probability, statistics, and computer science. In my time there I completed several rigorous statistical projects including an investigation and prediction of the effect of VAR on the Premier League.

For the past two years, I have worked in the actuary department of TCS Letterkenny. First I was part of a manual calculations team providing pension evaluations for a UK client and currently, I am part of a modeling team for a US-based insurance company.

Through academic learning and work experience, I have found working as part of a team enjoyable while also being able to take responsibility for my own work. I am seeking a challenging role where my existing skills will add value, while continuing to learn and progress. Resourceful individual, considered a team player with dynamic and proficient skills.

FEBUARY 2023 - JANUARY 2025 - MANUAL CALCULATIONS ACTUARIAL RESPONSE

• Operated using TCS's systems, using it to update, rebuild and maintain customers pension policies while following extensive calculation specification manuals to achieve the correct results. 
•  Implemented the use of VBA to automate huge parts of processes improving efficiency. • Performed actuarial manual calculations on a variety of products from Life, Health and Pensions, both unitized and conventional with-profit and non-profit. 
• Calculations include: 
  • Surrender, transfer, and death claim values 
  • Policy corrections for incorrect charges, rebates, allocations, fund switches
  • Hypothetical customer request 
  • Calculating market-level adjustments
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members to analyze complex data and make calculated decisions, leading to optimized outcomes for both customers and clients. 
• Kept an efficient file keeping system, maintaining meticulous records for improved organization and ease of access. 
• Designed and executed a comprehensive training plan for onboarding new team members, resulting in increased productivity and consistent performance standards.

JANUARY 2025 - PRESENT - PRUDENTIAL MODELLING TEAM

• Supported the continual enhancement of a complex US group insurance model as part of a specialized modeling team.
• Collaborated cross-functionally with underwriting and actuarial teams to gather requirements, refine model functionality, and ensure compliance with evolving US regulations.
• Optimized and maintained Python and VBA scripts used in daily production processes, improving efficiency and reducing operational risk.
• Designed and implemented table-driven methodologies that streamlined model architecture, simplified maintenance, and facilitated faster adoption of future updates.
• Contributed to model governance and documentation efforts, ensuring transparency and alignment with internal standards.
