Providing accurate data every morning of failsafe it's a system were by all new born babies have to have a new born blood spot by day 5 and it has to then be sent to Great Ormand Street hospital if this is not done it will be flagged up on our system it is then for myself to find out why it has not been done sometimes babies are born in our area then move out or they have been born in hospitals outside our area and the discharge papers may not have been sent over to us or a baby may be in NNU so we will have to make enquires daily without fail. I will then input my notes from the days before visits again these reports have to be accurate and on time as anyone from the multidisciplinary team may need to access them especially if there are any safeguarding issues or concerns. I then make up blue notes these are the hospital notes that the woman get booked in with and carry with them from the start to the end of their pregnancy.
My visits start from 9-10 in the morning on these visits the team that I am working with tend to have little or no speaking English but I will call language line or the mum will call a family member as I am asking consent to take babies blood and undress baby

This is something I do at the weekend and any holidays I have as I wanted to be a part of helping families of DV and substance misuse and the ability not to care for their children without additional support to be able to see their families in a safe environment I have to listen out make notes for court documented papers I also have to end a visit if the parents are trying to coax information out of the children or coerce them into saying things in a upcoming trial some parents get very anxious as they know their children may be put into permanent care, but I try to help them focus on the positive on our time together.

This role I looked after special educational need children and supported and sign posted parents for any additional support that they may have needed that I couldn't offer. I am trained to notice a detreating child look after and change a tracheostomy in a normal controlled setting or in an emergency. I did this either in the home or in the school setting when you do it at home you tend to be more supportive of the whole family's needs and are able to identify issues which they may not normally talk about as they feel more relaxed in their own environment.

This is where I was able to set up drop in clinics support families with any additional needs they may have help with any issues arising to family life and how to cope and learn. The clinic would also be antenatal to help them understand what is about to happen when the new addition arrives how to feed baby how to sterilise equipment how to dress baby how to bathe baby and where baby should sleep this is so important as so many woman I see just don't know I then within in this role went on to work on the postnatal wards as I was seeing so many woman in the community that didn't have a clue so in doing this role I would give classes to all new parents leaving the hospital and arm them with tools to be ready for life with a newborn.

This was a role in a semi independent unit looking after 6 young girls all with different emotional needs but all wanting to feel cared about and just needing someone to do just that. I would help the girls fill out application forms weather to jobs or collages or help with benefits I would also help and support them when family members came to visit as this would prove to be a real challenge as to the kids their family did not want them. This was a lot of talking and definitely a lot of teaching we had DV at such a young age as this is what she grew up with and saw it as normal my door was always open and slowly but surely the girls would come and seek me out for advice sometimes on something simple like how to make a roast chicken how to wash cloths.
No 2 days was the same even on my days off I would be called by other staff members to talk to the girls.
