Elisha Mutambudzi

I am a Chartered Management Accountant with over 25 years of experience in the energy and power sector, with a particular focus on electricity markets, trading, commercial strategy and regional power-sector development. I was instrumental in establishing and developing the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) electricity market from its early stages and have worked extensively with utilities, regulators, governments and development institutions across the region. I currently work as a Trading Manager in the renewable energy sector, focusing on power trading, project development and commercial opportunities across Southern and East Africa.

I hold an MPhil in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School and a BA Honours in Financial Services Management from Edinburgh Napier University.

I have over 25 years of experience in the power and energy sector, with extensive expertise in electricity markets, power trading, commercial strategy and regional power-sector development. I spent more than two decades with the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), where I was involved from the early stages in establishing and developing the regional electricity market and subsequently worked across market operations, trading, settlement, market surveillance and stakeholder engagement. My experience includes working with utilities, regulators, governments, development finance institutions and private-sector investors across Southern and East Africa.

I have also been involved in regional transmission and market-integration initiatives, including the development of cross-border trading arrangements and investment programmes. I have since moved into the private sector, where I currently work as a Trading Manager, focusing on renewable energy projects, power purchase agreements, electricity trading strategies and commercial opportunities across African power markets.

I am a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and a PAAB-registered and practising accountant in Zimbabwe. I hold an MPhil in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, a BA Honours in Financial Services Management from Edinburgh Napier University, and a CIMA Practising Certificate. My professional experience is complemented by extensive practical expertise in electricity markets, power trading, commercial strategy and regional power-sector development.
