Ella Hughes

I am a third year undergraduate student at the University of Exeter studying English and Creative Writing, on target to graduate with a 2:1. As a writer, my interest naturally extends to the prospect of a career in publishing, while also hoping to grow, share and apply the skills I have in the field.

I have gained some insight and understanding of marketing systems through my work experience doing SEO, editing articles and navigating websites. I enjoy pursuing creative design through the time I’ve spent utilising Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, partly through A Level Art and partly as a hobby. I have also held an onsite job at a nursery where I enjoy working alongside others and sharing ideas and responsibilities.

This time allowed me to develop good workplace and social skills, consistently communicating with my co-workers and families, as well as understanding how to take initiative and take on tasks in a busy and challenging work environment.

I have been a creative writer since childhood, and it is a passion I was keen to pursue at higher education level. Now as I am nearing graduation, I am eager to understand more about the practical side of writing and publishing. I have learned a range of skills throughout my time at University, such as editing creative and content writing, improving my understanding of the English language, and an increased proficiency in selecting and consuming a relevant and diverse range of works.
