I am a final-year PhD researcher at Loughborough University, specialising in the intersection of sobriety, belonging, and academic citizenship on UK university campuses. My research, conducted as part of the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) on Unequal Academic Citizenship (CITHEI), examines how non-drinking students navigate campus spaces, generating insights to inform policy and foster inclusivity in Higher Education.
With expertise spanning sociology, human geography, and the built environment, I employ innovative methodologies, including participatory approaches like Miro for online qualitative data collection. These methods have been tested in government-funded projects, and I am currently developing a measurement model for subjective sense of belonging among non/low-drinking students in the UK.
My research interests include higher education, sobriety, young people, belonging, student engagement, alcohol consumption, and identity.
I am an experienced researcher with expertise in interdisciplinary studies spanning sociology, human geography, and the built environment. My PhD research explores the lived experiences of non-drinking students in UK universities, focusing on belonging, spatial dynamics, and inclusivity. This work involved designing and executing innovative mixed-methods studies, including interviews, focus groups, participatory methods using miro and surveys.
Additionally, this project involves conducting thematic and statistical analysing using tools like Nvivo and SPSS. In addition to my academic research, I have worked as a Research Associate, contributing to the development of inclusive strategies for higher education institutions and collaborating on projects that address equity, diversity, and belonging. My professional experience includes translating complex research findings into actionable insights, developing evidence-based policy recommendations, and presenting at academic conferences and seminars.
Across all roles, I have demonstrated strong project management skills, critical analysis, and the ability to produce high-quality research outputs.
