I have been working in the NHS as a radiographer for 5 years and for the past 2 years i have been lucky enough to work as senior radiographer.
I have been working in the Lanarkshire Beatson for 3 years and I was promoted to senior radiographer 2 years ago, this involes managing the workload of the radiotherapy unit and leading the radiotherapy team. I scanned, planned and effectively delivered radiotherapy to cancer patients. I ensured patient and staff safety by conforming to radiation safety regulations.
I communicate sensitive information and ensure patients have the adequate care required for their needs by checking side effects and skin reactions. I am also involved with clinical trials and handle government treatment target dates.
Before this I worked in the Newcastle Freeman Hospital as a radiographer for 3 years and rotated all around the department. was competent in advanced radiotherapy echniques such as DIBH, stereotaxy, VMAT and MRI only prostate treatments. I undertook daily QA checks on the linacs and superficial unit to test for outputs and imaging calibration. I worked alongside MDTs to discuss what's best for the patient carepaths.
I also worked in the radiotherapy scheduling office which was primarily an administrative role, organising the workload of the department and multitasking across various databases. I was also in charge of getting patients treated within their government target dates which was challenging with the number of referrals and departmental demand.
I took a small career break from radiotherapy to work in the amazon rainforest to help with deforestation and abused animals and i also volunteered in the galapogos to help clean the ocean of plastics.
Since returning home in April this year I have been working full time as a dog walker across the Glasgow area.
