Evelyn Brooks

Since starting college, I have completed a Uniform Services Level 2 Diploma and Health & Social Care Level 2 Diploma. I am half way through a 2 year Level 3 course doing Health and Social Care. After I have completed this course I am going to take a gap year to work and travel.

I have been a leader for a beavers group at 1st Wordsley Scout group for over 3 years now, which has developed my confidence very positively. I have also volunteered at The Salvation Army charity shop for 2 years which I stopped at until it shut down at the end of June this year.

The Salvation

Army gave me good confidence and an experience of work life. I have also developed skills of dealing with different scenarios from both of my voluntary groups which I think will be beneficial for Michelangelo.

Building effective working relationships with colleagues. Delivering efficient and friendly customer service. Keeping Informed of seasonal demands to maximise sales and pre-empt customer need. Processing stock by hanging and tagging the clothes. Experience on the shop floor by working on the cash till and placing stock in the correct locations. Working together as a team, being aware of how colleagues are managing in their roles in case they need assistance.

• Hanging and tagging clothes, processing approximately 35 items of clothing an hour, in an accurate and organised manner
• Serving customers on the till, working out how much change they need if they have paid by cash
• Sorting clothes out into different seasons e.g. shorts and long trousers are sorted out into the summer section at around January/February/March time
• Working as a team to get the clothes ready and priced up so they can be put on the shop floor to be sold
• Keeping committed and enthusiastic to continue learning more aspects of the role, providing affordable items to the community and raising funds for a charity
