About
I have three years’ experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a secondary school environment, supporting pupils across the school with their learning, progress, behaviour and wider pastoral needs. During this time, I have developed a strong understanding of the expectations, routines and challenges within a busy secondary school and have built positive professional relationships with pupils, teaching staff and other members of the school community. In my current role, I work closely with teachers and other members of staff to support pupils in accessing their learning and achieving positive outcomes.
I adapt my approach according to individual pupils’ needs and understand that barriers to learning can be academic, behavioural, emotional or social. I use appropriate strategies to encourage pupils to engage with their learning, develop their confidence and become more independent. I have experience supporting pupils with a range of needs and understand the importance of taking a patient, consistent and individualised approach.
I recognise that pupils may respond differently depending on their circumstances and I aim to establish positive relationships based on trust, respect and clear boundaries. My role requires me to work with a high degree of professionalism and, at times, with minimal supervision. I am able to use my initiative, prioritise tasks and respond appropriately when circumstances change.
Working in a secondary school has also developed my ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging behaviour or situations requiring sensitivity and discretion. I understand the importance of attendance and punctuality and the impact that poor attendance can have on a pupil’s education, progress and wellbeing. Through my experience in school, I have developed an understanding of the importance of identifying concerns at an early stage and communicating these appropriately with relevant staff.
