Hi! My name is Freya, I'm 21 years old and have recently graduated from university, studying Fashion Marketing and Communication. I joined this course as a result of my love for fashion. It is my passion, and now that I have completed my degree, I know what career path I want to pursue, and that is fashion styling, I am looking to gain experience within this field so that I can understand more about this industry, and so I can decide what kind of stylist I want to be in the future. I am really excited for what the future holds for me in fashion!
Throughout my time at university, I have undertaken some work experience in social media. For example, my first form of social media experience was working as a social media volunteer for my local Oxfam charity shop, I took on this opportunity as I wanted to gain relevant experience during my time at university. I worked as a social media volunteer for just under a year, until another social media work placement opportunity presented itself to me. During the 2nd year on my course, I had the opportunity to gain industry experience through a work placement module. I had the pleasure of interning for a creative agency as a social media assistant for a few months, this was a very insightful work placement opportunity as I learnt a lot during my time there, but most importantly, I found it to be fun and exciting, working with the company's various clients and working in a team with the other interns, brainstorming ideas/feedback for content.
My interest in fashion first began as I embarked on my next chapter after GCSE's, which was A Levels. At this point, I wanted to further my education with the idea of going to university after A Levels. And so, with my interest in fashion, I began looking at fashion based degrees. I chose Fashion Marketing and Communication because it was a hybrid course that would enable me to explore the various career pathways within the fashion industry. When it came to choosing my A Levels, I knew I just wanted to do fashion but I didn't have much choice, however, I did have the option to choose an EPQ which is half an A Level. Choosing this option enabled me to explore fashion more, by choosing to base my essay on a fashion related topic. My essay was based on the history of fashion with a focus on the history of Burberry as a luxury fashion brand. With reference to the Fashion Marketing and Communication degree, I have completed modules in brand management, fashion forecasting and narratives and fashion culture and context. Finally, the module I enjoyed most and the one in which I excelled in was the contemporary fashion communication module. This module had more of a focus on fashion styling and learning the different methods of storytelling through styling, and my tutor/programme leader said that storytelling was one of my strengths. I enjoyed this module the most as I found it to be the most fashion focused and I enjoyed creating the story of my project, which was titled ‘Escapism In Nature’.
