I have recently completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology with Counselling, and along with my counselling skills training and voluntary mental health support experience, I feel I have developed many of the core skills required for trainee PWP qualification, and I am motivated to further develop my clinical knowledge and practice. I have a strong commitment to supporting individuals who are experiencing mental health difficulties. My interest in mental health is from both my academic studies and personal experiences of seeing the impact mental health difficulties can have on individuals and families.
Currently volunteering in a role as a befriender, engaging in one-to-one sessions with a young person experiencing barriers related to physical and mental health. This role has strengthened my ability to develop trusting relationships through empathy and active listening. I recognise the importance of creating a safe environment where individuals feel able to discuss their experiences openly, while remaining within the boundaries of my role.
I have become comfortable discussing sensitive topics with empathy and understanding, ensuring individuals feel listened to, while maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality. This experience has increased my understanding of how mental health conditions can affect daily functioning and reinforced my commitment to supporting individuals to recognise their strengths and work towards personal, collaborative goals.
Customer-facing roles
Employment in customer-facing roles has enabled me to communicate clearly and confidently with a diverse range of people, building rapport quickly, remaining calm under pressure and work effectively in busy, multidisciplinary teams. These experiences have strengthened my resilience, adaptability and ability to work collaboratively towards shared goals.
