Hello, my name is Gareth. I am currently a student at the University of Manchester, studying History. I will graduate this year and I am looking to pursue a career in teaching and move to Paris in August/September 2023. My degree has taught me to relay large bodies of information concisely and I am ready to put this into practice!
I am a people person; I love working in a team and I am enjoyable to work with, making me a valuable team member. I am also passionate about languages, and I hope to be fluent in French as soon as possible!
Youth Group Voluntary Work 2016-2020: Held position of leadership and responsibility for children aged 7-11, often running group activities that had to be engaging and were well-received. Began this role when I was only fifteen and therefore demonstrated natural leadership qualities and aptitude for working with children.
Gardner Leader Solicitors, Work Experience Summer 2019 : Gained experience in the legal world by summarising legal practices, synthesising large bodies of information to aid the work of solicitors in the team every day for a week. First insight into the professional world meant adapting to the new environment, completing the placement with success.
Head Boy at St. Bartholomew’s School, Newbury 2019-2020: Underwent a competitive and rigorous selection process for this position which involved producing an improvement plan for school, interviews with head teachers, and presentations to staff and pupils. Formulated and delivered a business proposal for the sum of £10,000, represented the student body of 2,000 pupils, and enacted change in the immediate environment.
Acted at the centre of a team of 25 and led progress towards group and school-wide goals. Organised the installation of living wall which left a lasting legacy.
2020 – 2023 The University of Manchester, History BA (Hons) First year result: 69 %, Second year result: 68 % Reading history and conducting independent research projects involved rapid assessments of research, the identification of major trends and debates in different fields, showing analytical ability.
Marshalling of large bodies of data and evidence types not previously encountered meant the possibility to incorporate new data for solving problems.
