Govind Reji

I’m a postgraduate student in Transport Planning at the University of Leeds, with a background in architecture and a strong focus on urban mobility, infrastructure design, and user-centered public space. My work bridges between designing houses to planning and designing public spaces and urban roads, through visualisation.

Work | ArchitectureRED | Chennai (June 2023 – Dec 2023)

• Contributed to urban-scale and large-scale housing projects in Chennai.
• Designing high-rise housing in dense urban areas, and worked on street redesign, improving walking quality and traffic congestion.
• Created physical models and detailed 2D and 3D drawing for client presentations.
• Worked on 5 projects and 2 projects are under construction.

• Worked at a start-up firm in Coimbatore, India, contributing to small-scale commercial and housing projects.
• Created complex architectural models tailored to client requirements, with architectural design insights.
• Monitored site work and produced technical drawings for execution of design.
• Designed 10 projects, had site work for 2 projects, and executed 2 projects.

• Learned sustainable housing design and modelling under Padmashree Dr. Shankar.
• Developed expertise in designing houses through close client collaboration.
• Worked on 15 projects engaging with client and constructed three projects.

Leeds City Railway Station | Aesthetic Revitalisation (Dec 2024 – Aug 2025)

• Addressed the underutilised south entrance by applying aesthetic principles and redesigning the station building, developing community interaction through aesthetic interventions.
• Proposed a world-class gateway entrance design attracting users and provided additional elements engaging residents. 

• Proposed a multimodal connectivity plan integrating mass transit tram systems proposed by Leeds City Council, with the mainline station.
• Redesigned with urban context, enhancing visual connectivity and accessibility to public transport for seamless travel.

• Designed an intermodal transit hub for City of Kochi connecting metro, bus, rail and ferry.
• Focused on reducing walking time, improving transfers, and creating legible urban connections.

• Analysed historical urban evolution and transport infrastructure, documenting the study area.
• Proposed and designed pedestrian-friendly streets, cycle tracks, and improved road designs.
• Developed strategies to reduce congestion and pollution, improved public transport ridership, and walking experience.
