Senior Role in Project Work and Engineering - Kelkay
(2025-11)
After a brief period of time at Ardagh glass I was asked to return to Kelkay in a more senior role allowing me to push my career forward to the next step. This role developed my experience in project management, engineering supervision, CMMS development and contractor control.
- Managing the welfare facility relocation project from start to finish adhering to the expenditure authorization.
- Coordination of external contractors for relevant project tasks including civil engineers, electrical engineers, facility maintenance companies and transportation companies.
- Administration of project documentation including risk assessments, method statements, permits, quotations, invoices, licenses and induction sheets.
- Using the Shires CMMS to manage site compliance.
- Developing the Shires CMMS to log engineering works leading to route cause analysis on breakdowns and increased machine availability.
- Communication effectively with a variety of different site departments for engineering and project works including production staff, the health and safety department and senior managers.
- Using the LN system to complete relevant purchase orders.
- Liasing with suppliers to source critical spare parts.
- Development and training of the Engineering apprentice.
- Standing as the engineering and health and safety representative in the group consultations for redundancy.
Mechanical Fitter - Ardagh Glass
(2025-05 - 2025-11)
Due to unforeseen circumstances, I moved away from Kelkay and was employed as a Mechanical Fitter at Ardagh glass. Here I developed my engineering experience in a new industry and environment.
- Planned and reactive maintenance on glass production machinery including furnaces, ovens, bucket elevators, mixers, cooling systems and conveyors.
- Using SAP system to log planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Using a barcode scanning system to allocate critical spares to engineering tasks.
- Working within a large engineering department sharing expertise with apprentices and younger engineers.
- Using overhead cranes for large scale workshop rebuilds.
Industrial Engineer - Kelkay
(2023-02 - 2025-05)
After more than five years of employment at Wren I was employed by Kelkay as an Industrial Engineer. Here I developed my engineering career and experience through working on heavier plant machinery primarily used for aggregate handling, screening, weighing, bagging and palletising. I also developed my skill set into the world of project engineering through my involvement in factory decommissioning, machine refurbishment, modification, relocation and installation.
- Overhaul, refurbishment, re-location and commissioning of the new manual and bulk bagger lines.
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on heavy plant machinery, predominantly Mobile aggregate bagging machines.
- Replacement of machinery components including motor gearbox units, rollers, taper locks, belts, bearings, sensors and weighing jaws.
- Large scale design, fabrication, welding and plating tasks using MIG welding and oxyacetylene cutting.
- Basic electrical tasks including continuity testing and wiring up 3 phase motors.
- Aiding with the implementation of the Shires CMMS system for the Engineering department.
- Decommissioning and strip down of the MyStone paving and cement factory.
- Completing project work to specific timescales and deadlines set through GANTT charts.
- Setting up and organising the new fitting shop, fabrication shop and spare parts area for the Engineering department utilising lean techniques.
- Standing as the Engineering representative for monthly colleague voice forum meetings between employees and upper management.
Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Wren Kitchens
(2017-05 - 2023-02)
After the successful completion of my Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, I was gainfully employed by Wren Kitchens to work in their manufacturing site as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer. Here, I spent over five years extensively developing my technical knowledge and ability whilst gaining valuable experience working on a variety of complex mechanical machinery. This includes CNC routers, packaging machinery, wood shredders, conveyors and storage systems.
- Confidently identifying causes of equipment breakdowns using assured fault-finding techniques.
- Carrying out repairs expediently in order to minimise production downtime.
- Repairing and replacing mechanical components such as bearings, belts, valves, actuators, chains, sprockets, gears, pumps, and pipes.
- Working on pneumatic systems.
- Completing calendar PPM's on a large variety of production machinery.
- Interpreting engineering diagrams to aid fault finding and repairs.
- Carrying out work at height and confined space tasks on site.
- Carrying out mandatory weekly sprinkler system and fire alarm checks.
- Ensuring that for all maintenance tasks, all relevant documentation is meticulously completed, including risk assessments and job report sheets.
