am an approachable, keen, and reliable individual who has recently completed a politics degree at Queen Mary University of London. During my degree, I have developed an excellent set of analysis skills, whether this be from written or numerical material, and I am able to present and summarise my findings effectively to support decision making and problem solving. Along with my academic development and achievements, I have two years’ experience in retail, working at Home Bargains, where I performed all retail assistant duties including interacting with customers, cash handling and stock control.
I possess excellent interpersonal skills and I am always looking to improve and develop my key skills. Furthermore, I always aim to learn from the people I meet on a day-to-day basis. I am naturally helpful and possess a positive outlook.
I am extremely studious, have a keen attention to detail and excellent time management skills. An excellent team player and communicator; a skill I have continued to develop through both engaging in local activities, such as providing shopping to vulnerable locals during the pandemic, and through my involvement in local political campaigns. I can follow and deliver instructions, I am extremely hard working and ensure I give 110% in every task I undertake.
I enjoy politics and history and spend my time researching and reading about both topics. More recently, I have undertaken a dissertation for my politics degree, and I wrote about a key interest of mine; the history of the LGBTQ+ Community and its interconnected political history. Furthermore, I spend much of my time socializing with friends and we engage in activities together such as football and music gigs.
One of my hobbies is listening to music, especially prog-rock and metal, and I very much enjoy collecting CDs and vinyl. My friends and I are huge music fans and spend our time together relaxing and enjoying a wide array of music together.
I am an avid fan of reading, and my favourite books are Frankenstein and Homage to Catalonia. In addition, I find peace and inspiration in nature. Walking is a cherished pastime that allows me to explore new environments.
Being a politics student at QMUL was an invigorating experience which developed many key skills. Firstly, research skills were of the utmost importance, especially individual political research. One example would be the 10,000-word dissertation which orientated around a personal subject focus.
Research focused on the impact of British colonialism on LGBTQ+ Communities in India. The research dissertation involved examining various timeframes and understanding how different policies impacted not only LGBTQ+ Communities, but also both historical and contemporary society. Moreover, the degree expanded interpersonal skills through tasks involving group work.
The tasks involved a contribution towards a presentation, a manifesto and an individual essay response to a question on climate change. Such projects evolve an ability to work towards a collective goal, whilst also working towards personal goals. Meanwhile, adaptability was key due to the ever-changing landscape of politics.
The degree has required constant analysis of new political policies and the application of critical thinking to understand how certain policies will impact individuals, certain groups and the population as a whole. Also, multiple essay deadlines at university meant that time management was crucial so that all research was factual and in depth.
