My name is Hassanatu, a lot of people call me Hassie. I am 22 years old studying third year medicine at the university of Manchester. I am multitalented and versatile. My name is Jack because I’ve mastered all trades!

I am a hair and makeup artist. I love accentuating people’s features and helping them see the beauty and light they have in them. Everyone deserves confidence and peace. Makeup is something that has brought me both.

I have been mastering my craft in hair and makeup for 7 years now. I have worked with diverse skin complexions and features, of which I have kept somewhat of a portfolio. For the past few months, I have built my portfolio of Afrocentric makeup and hair aesthetics.

As a result, I have increased my experience in wigs (closures and frontals), braided styles, locs etc. I have also bettered my makeup techniques when dealing with Afrocentric features, to produce optimal results. My work with black women is very important and intentional.

For a black woman like myself especially, we have felt excluded in the beauty industry. I am happy to provide a safe space for all.

A typical Saturday night out is a perfect depiction of my passion for hair, makeup and fashion. I style my outfits using my iPhone; accessories and all! Then I take my time styling my hair and doing my makeup, the way I have visualised it.

When any of the outlined steps do not go as planned, I cry and start again. So much thought goes into making sure hair, makeup and outfit are styled in a way that they all complement each other. Whenever one cannot achieve something at first try, it can seem daunting.

I am resilient and a problem solver. I rise to challenges!

Social media trends have directly influenced makeup techniques and products and the overall demand in the beauty industry. I find myself stuck on multiple social media platforms- twitter, instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook etc. Using these platforms, I have been able to gather the in season makeup trends and the most popular makeup products. Furthermore, I have studied why consumers love those makeup products and how to use what’s in my existing makeup bag to achieve the same look.

I worked at New Hope community Healthcare in the role of support worker between June 2022- September 2022

• Role duties 
  • Working with service users affected by neurological conditions/ syndromes/ diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and dementia. 
  • Dispensing, administering, recording and managing service user’s medications. 
  • Helping service user maintain a balanced diet and exercise regime. 
  • Managing social and mental health of service user by engaging in stimulators tasks. 
  • Assisting service user with personal hygiene. 
  • Managing service user’s finances.
