Workshop Facilitator, Talk Consent (Guildford / Surrey)

I am a qualified teacher and practising artist with over three decades of experience working with children and young people, from Key Stage 2 classrooms to informal youth-club settings and creative workshops. I am drawn to this role because it combines two things I care about deeply: creating a space where young people feel able to speak honestly, and delivering content in a way that is engaging rather than lectured. My background began in youth work in 1980s London, where I gained a Grade B Youth Worker qualification with ILEA and learned to build trust with young people outside the structure of a classroom — a skill I have carried through into every teaching role since.
As a Key Stage 2 teacher and long-standing supply teacher, I have managed groups ranging from settled to challenging, always working to create an atmosphere where pupils feel comfortable taking part. More recently, my art workshops for the Whoopsydaisy charity and my ongoing tutoring of 9–16 year-olds have kept me directly engaged with the age group this role serves, using creative, participatory methods to hold attention and open up discussion. I am confident speaking to groups, comfortable navigating sensitive conversations, and genuinely committed to building my own knowledge of consent education so that I can deliver it with care, accuracy and empathy.
