PURPLEBRICKS | FEB 2022 - PRESENT
Working as a Front-End Developer in an Agile squad of 8.
Built a new app known as Compliance Hub to assist Agents in carrying out anti-money laundering checks. Collaborated with back-end developers to identify the requirements of API services and tested these via Swagger. Built web-pages and components using React, Typescript and Tailwind within a Next JS framework.
Used bearer tokens to authenticate users and third party modules to allow agents to upload documents. Made use of Docker and Rancher to run containers and proxies when developing locally and carried out manual testing. Wrote automated tests using Jest, React Testing Library and Cypress and ensured sufficient code coverage using NX tools.
Also tested new features using BrowserStack to ensure cross-browser compatibility. Used Git to manage workflows as well as Azure DevOps, GitHub and Vercel to create PRs and deploy new releases to the Live/Production environment. The same is true for legacy applications which used Octopus.
Also uploaded new components to Storybook with documentation and controls.
Worked with Scrum Leaders and QA Testers to refine upcoming tasks, estimate tickets and write up acceptance criteria. Worked with designers to influence the design of web-pages and interrogated wireframes via Figma. Pair-programmed with fellow front-end developers to review PRs and identify and resolve bugs.
Also frequently delivered presentations to the Digital Leadership Team via live demonstrations and lead retro sessions where I raised problems encountered by the squad and proposed solutions.
Sept 2008 - Aug 2009 - The University of Nottingham - Civil Engineering MSc (Distinction)
During my MSc Research Project I worked individually to investigate the adhesive properties of road building materials. I planned and conducted experiments and analysed the resulting data. I submitted a dissertation and 8-page technical report discussing my findings, both of which received a grade of 73%. During the course I also undertook modules in partial differential equations and finite element analysis where I produced a macro in MatLab to analyse forces and stresses within a structure.
