Young leader at Girls' Brigade England & Wales (2026-01 – Present)
I have attended Girls' brigade since the age of four, and after nearly thirteen years as a member, I chose to become a young leader to give back to an organisation that has played a significant role in my personal development. This experience has allowed me to contribute to my local community while supporting younger girls in a positive and encouraging environment. As a volunteer, I arrive before each session to help prepare activities, crafts, and refreshments before welcoming the girls and leading songs and dances.
Throughout the sessions, I assist with delivering activities and crafts while also providing individual support, building positive relationships and encouraging the girls' confidence and participation. At the end of each session, I help tidy and restore the church, demonstrating reliability, teamwork and a strong sense of responsibility. This role has strengthened my leadership skills, while reinforcing the importance of creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for young people.
Youth camp leader at YWAM Alblasserwaard (2025-08 – 2025-08)
Working as a youth camp leader for YWAM Alblasserward provided me with valuable hands-on experience in adapting to new challenges and responsibilities. As the first language spoken was Dutch, I developed effective communication skills by finding alternative ways to overcome language barriers and build positive relationships with both colleagues and children. My responsibilities included supporting the day-to-day programme of the camp through food preparation, cleaning and engaging with young children to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
In addition, I helped organise and deliver community events, including football tournaments and live performances, requiring strong teamwork, organisation and leadership skills.
Assistant coach at Hawkwell Athletic Football Club (2024-07 – 2024-08)
Assisting my coach during the Soccer School summer program for younger girls and Wildcats enabled me to develop valuable leadership, communication and organisational skills. My responsibilities included helping to organise and deliver coaching sessions, while also ensuring that appropriate safeguarding procedures were consistently followed. Through this experience, I gained a greater understanding of how younger children learn and develop new skills, and I adapted my coaching approach accordingly.
I also learned effective strategies for maintaining their attention and engagement throughout activities, helping to create a positive, safe and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
