Hsiang-Sheng Teng (Shawn) is an award-winning, multitalented, London-based filmmaker, interdisciplinary artist, and researcher from Taiwan, specialising in documentary filmmaking, interviews, short-form video, and audiovisual storytelling. He believes that art is what makes a community a great place to live. Working across directing, cinematography, photography, lighting design, and editing, he has over six years of experience producing visual content for a range of significant documentary and creative projects.
He has worked with National Geographic and the Discovery Channel through his apprenticeship with Flowing Film and has studied and worked with Taiwanese documentary filmmaker Hsiao Chu-Chen, a two-time winner of the Golden Horse Award for Best Documentary Feature. Teng grew up in a musical family, and his mother is a conductor with the Taitung Youth String Orchestra, so he is well versed in both classical and contemporary music. He holds an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London, and a BA from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.
He is also a member of The Magic Circle.
