I am a civil & structural engineer based in the north west of the England, having started in the construction industry in 1990. I have been professionally qualified as an engineer since 1997.
Over the years I have worked for small to medium consultancies as well as large corporations ostensibly on a contract basis, and in that time I have been fortunate enough to work on a broad spectrum of interesting & challenging projects, which have included:-
Domestic Residential & Commercial Structures…housing, apartment blocks, loft conversions, extensions, offices & industrial units.
Surveys & structural reports forming part of the vending documentation for mortgage assessments of residential and commercial properties.
Public Buildings…schools, & hospitals.
Telecommunications…masts, towers, bracketry, rooftop & greenfield sites.
Power Sector…large generator foundations & bunded structures.
Water & Waste Water Treatment Works…large tanks, chambers & retaining walls.
High Security Fencing for gas terminals & other strategic installations
Chemical Works…steel pipe bridges, vessel supports & large concrete foundations.
Change of use…conversion of disused industrial structures for habitable purposes.
As such, I am multi-disciplined engineer highly experienced in the analysis & design of structures in reinforced concrete, steelwork, masonry & timber as well as other lesser used materials such as stainless steel, cast & wrought iron.
Additionally, I am highly experienced in foundation design, drainage, steel connections, site investigation, the appraisal of existing structures, report writing, remedial works as well as on-site problem solving once site works have commenced.
I appreciate the importance of understanding how structures behave under gravity & lateral loads and the impact they have on stability and general structural robustness.
I have a proven record of accomplishment of delivering structural schemes sometimes complex and intricate, which interface with other disciplines such as instrumentation, pipe stressing, mechanical, electrical and architectural.
I am never afraid to ask for someone else’s opinion whether that be relating to analysis, construction, cost or on-site safety, as it is important for everyone involved in a project to get things right in a cost efficient safe working environment.
