Isobel Neill

An organised, detail-orientated and enthusiastic publishing professional with a passion for editing. I am an excellent communicator, and consistently prioritise building credible working relationships with colleagues and customers to ensure the delivery of a high quality of work. Additionally, I prioritise and organise all tasks with initiative.

In August 2023, I completed my highly practical studies in MA Publishing at Manchester Metropolitan University, with a strong interest in editorial. In July 2022, I also received a 2:1 in BA in English and Related Literature from the University of York. Outside of my education, I have experience working as a freelance copyeditor for Vellum Publishing, an independent publisher based in Manchester.

At Vellum Publishing, I copyedited and line edited manuscripts from a range of formats and genres, addressing spelling, punctuation, and grammar, as well as phrasing and word choice. Throughout this role, I frequently collaborated with authors and colleagues, and established working relationships. Additionally, I organised and prioritised all tasks with initiative, and often completed additional tasks such as copywriting and general administration.

Throughout fast-paced hospitality roles at Nunsmere Hall Hotel and 59 at The Hollies, I worked as a pro-active team player to deliver high-quality customer service. For instance, I frequently maintained the organisation of catering areas, multitasked, and utilised excellent verbal communication skills with colleagues and customers.

MA Publishing at Manchester Metropolitan University - This course provided me with an in-depth and practical understanding of all publishing industry sectors, including editorial, commissioning, production, design, sales, and marketing. This included a third-party project, in which I took on the roles of editor and project manager.
