Worked in IT for over 10 Years from Infrastructure Manager of a Small company to a Dev Ops Engineer in a local university.
While Studying at University I worked in Retail for 9 Years from the age of 16 in various roles; from trolley boy, customer assistant on the shop floor, and also a cashier on the checkouts.
My IT professional career started in 2011 after achieving my MSc in Computer Networks undertaken after a 2:1 BSc in the same subject from what is now UWTSD.
Infrastructure Manager - November 2011 → July 2020
Started as a one man team in 2011 of a small 4 person company and left as the Infrastructure Manager with a team of 3 including myself. Ensuring day to day operations ran smoothly, backups taken, maintenance overseen, general system wellbeing; along side system and software upgrade paths and proposals for improvements and cost analysis.
Working with Windows, Linux, VMware and various other systems.
Senior Technician - June 2020 → August 2021
Role was to take charge of a new team of technicians and provide help and support to various legacy systems under support contracts and various SLA agreements.
The role included hardware, system and software installations of bespoke plans, based on customer agreed work. Backup Management, and general helpdesk duties. Project planning based on customer agreed specification from Sales representative before rolling out to the customer; onsite callout management and oversight.
While working with DMA I undertook my Third year of a degree in BSc Applied Software Engineering achieving a 1st at Swansea University.
Technician / Developer - August 2021 → Present The role very similar to various other roles, however more coding experience was desired as automation is a key focus leaning towards more developer operations approach to system deployment.
Using ansible deployments servers, switches and various other hardware and software would be deployed automatically, using a mix of Linux and windows based operations alongside VMware and their flavour of RDS known as Horizon.
Managing firewall, maintenance, software delivery, general network configurations and various other roles in between.
