Having worked as a Lab Technician in multiple short term contracts in various secondary schools, I have gained good experience of working as a Lab Technician in secondary schools. I am familiar with the duties and responsibilities of a School Science Lab Technician such as preparing equipment, materials and chemicals for students’ practical lessons and I understand how to carry these out safely, on time and in a well organised manner. I am comfortable with handling chemicals, materials and equipment as I have experience of this during my time at other schools as well as at University.

At University, I attended laboratory classes every week and from these classes I gained experience of working in a lab environment as well as developing various lab skills such as handling hazardous chemicals safely, with safety being the top priority in the lab.

I have demonstrated strong organisational skills, time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks during my time as a Lab Technician at other schools. Keeping preparation rooms tidy and organised is extremely important in this role, as this makes a big difference to getting practical lessons prepared on time and this is a skill I have developed during my time at other schools as well as being a strong personal quality.

I have worked as part of a team, as well as being the sole lab technician in a school which has developed team work skills as well as ability to work independently.

During my time at University and at other schools, I have gained experience of following safety protocols such as carrying out risk assessments and following COSHH guidance from CLEAPSS.
