I am a former police officer with 30 years experience.
During my service I worked within several areas of policing however for the most part as a member of the Criminal Investigation Department, whilst latterly within a Community Policing Team.
I managed an extensive workload, ensuring that along with the officers under my supervision, I performed tasks efficiently, with a particular focus on gathering evidence and submitting reports within required timescales. This was achieved by encouraging frequent dialogue, with a shared emphasis regarding mutual support resulting in challenging matters pertaining to investigations being resolved collectively and monitoring progress to ensure that reports were submitted before or on submission dates.
As an experienced investigator, I have been involved in numerous major investigations, including being appointed to the role of senior investigating officer during a number of murder inquiries, receiving positive feedback from members of the senior management team in relation to outcomes.
I have a background in working in partnership with the council, education, health, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscals Service and elected members and have taken a leading role i.e. as the chairperson at several multi agency meetings.
Since retiring from the police, I have obtained an HNC in Legal Services, was appointed as the chairperson of a community group, and to the role of a company director at a local charity. The HNC has broadened my knowledge in respect of areas of the law which I previously had limited understanding i.e. employment law, family law etc; my role as chairperson has enhanced my skills in relation to working in partnership, with a small budget, towards common goals; whilst my position as a director has developed my ability to provide constructive scrutiny to support the charity’s objectives.
