I am a student who has just started studies at university in Biomedical Science. I am hoping to get a part time job so that I can gain and develop many new skills as well as experiences, which I believe would be crucial in helping shape me up for my future, as well as career. I am experienced in voluntary roles, which I effectively prioritised alongside my college work.
I was able to volunteer in both school and hospital environments, where I had the to opportunity to not only showcase my skills, such as empathy, patience and enthusiasm, but also gain skills like responsibility, awareness of health and safety and observation skills. I am motivated and enthusiastic in everything I do and I ensure I give it my all for the best outcomes.
I volunteered in a mealtime assistance role in the hospital, in a trauma and orthopaedic ward. My main role was to help hand out the patient’s meals across the different bays, and offer assistance to those who needed it, due to mobility and physical limitations. I had the chance to meet so many different patients with different traumas from incidents.
I had the responsibility to talk to them and offer emotional support. I was there to ensure that the patients had someone to talk to, as it did often get lonely and boring in the wards for them. It was truly an experience to work alongside so many different professionals in the hospital and see all the amazing and hard work that they do.
As part of my college childcare course, I had the opportunity to undergo placement at a primary school in year R. I had to go once a week for three hours and I had to manage this placement alongside my college work and courseworks, where I was also assigned to carry out certain tasks/activities of my own with the children. I had the role to work alongside the children, use my observation skills to keep a track of how they were doing and offering help and support when needed.
I had to often supervise the children during their playtime and also complete any tasks that the teacher assigned.
