Sound engineer, producer, musician and songwriter with over 10 years of live sound experience alongside studio production and music technology. I have worked across live and studio environments, from microphones and signal chains through to mixing, monitoring and PA systems, with practical experience on Allen & Heath, Yamaha and Avid consoles, Dante and both analogue and digital systems. My HND Sound Production is a Level 8 qualification that included a Level 9, degree-level module in acoustics.
Before moving into audio I spent around 20 years in oil & gas engineering, where systematic fault-finding and working accurately with technical information were part of everyday work. I now use that same approach across audio production and a range of AI-assisted projects, where I regularly test information, challenge assumptions and look for answers that sound convincing but don't actually stand up.
Live Sound Engineer — Live Sound & Venue Production - Freelance
FOH and monitor engineer for small and medium-sized venues and events up to around 500 capacity.
Responsibilities have included complete stage and PA setup, microphone selection, monitor systems, console operation, routing and dealing with technical problems during live performances.
Experience includes Allen & Heath, Yamaha and Avid digital consoles alongside analogue systems and Dante-based setups. Recent work has included Stone Fest and performances at Banff Castle Rocks and Live in Inverurie.
Founder / Producer / Musician - Frequency Lab Records
(2022)
Founded Frequency Lab Records to bring together music production, recording, songwriting and creative music technology. I record, produce and mix original music using Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Logic Pro.
Recent release: Smile Upon Your Face by The Kymatiks — wrote, composed, recorded, performed, mixed and mastered the track myself. I also run practical music and production sessions covering DAW workflows, recording, composition and production. The work involves making decisions by ear as well as technically, balancing the musical intention of a recording with its frequency, timing, dynamics and overall presentation.
Sound & Music Practitioner - AMZ
(2025-01)
Deliver structured music and sound sessions for adults with additional needs and other groups, using live music, percussion, singing, music technology and listening activities. Sessions are adapted to the people involved rather than following a fixed approach.
Technical Engineering Roles - Oil & Gas Engineering
(2019)
Worked in technical engineering roles involving process corrosion monitoring on live systems and cathodic protection, later taking technical and commercial responsibility for a regional office. The work required accurate technical assessment, fault-finding, documentation and making decisions where there was little room for guesswork.
HND Sound Production - Sound Production - North East Scotland College (NESCol) (2022 - 2025)
