Machine Operator - Swizzels Matlow Ltd
(2010-04 - 2023)
I joined Swizzels Matlow in 2010 as a hopper filler, working individual machines in groups of up to 4 people. This required good communication skills and attention to detail. Since joining the team, I have progressed to become a machine operator.
With being a machine operator it's my job to check the right product is going through the system and down the packing line, making sure each individual packet is to a standard to our customer. In 2020 I applied for a new role within the factory called the jelly department. With this role as its in such high demand you need excellent time keeping & attendance.
After successfully passing my interview, I started my job on the jelly department where we make the famous squashy drumsticks. In this job you work continental shifts 4 days on 4 days off, 4 nights on 4 days off. Being on the jelly floor it's your job to follow a recipe to make the jelly add the right amount of colour and flavouring to the batch to make the squashy perfect so it's a sellable product.
After 13 years with the company, I decided I wanted a new challenge and to expand on my already lengthy list of attributes. During my time at swizzles I had made many friends, I had grown
Deink Operator - Northwoord tissue ltd
(2023)
Learning to become a deink operator was honestly a challenge like no other had had ever faced in my 13 years at swizzles, it required months and months of training. However once I qualified from my training I run my own plant and had an assistant that worked under me. We worked well as a team ensuring a happy working environment and a smooth shift.
Running my own plant consisted of recycling paper which we would then push through a huge pulping/cleaning machine with the hopeful and always successful outcome being the paper would be clean and free from ink. Throughout my time on this job I felt an awful lot of pressure given I was required to do physical aspects such as the cleaning within the factory ensuring a clean and safe space in which to work but also operating the computers that the machinery relined on to function. Regardless of the pressure and the huge responsibilities I was entrusted with, I really tried my very best to work all aspects of my job to a very high standard and i pride myself in the good work I feel I have done at Northwood.
Failure to not be so successful in my job would mean huge blocks in the machinery resulting in complete shut down of the factory whilst
