I currently work as a Machine Operator/Setter at Schaeffler LUK.
I recently finished my Level 3 Machining Engineering apprenticeship in June 2023.
I managed to achieve the full time employment contract from Schaeffler in February 2022, whilst still completing my apprenticeship.

In this job role i Set/Operate CNC machines independently. However i can also set/operate automated cells which involve the use of KUKA robots. I currently operate high level Specialist turning/milling machines such as the EMAG and Hwacheon machines, plus the use of separate milling machines such as the Chiron.
Siemens controls are used on the EMAG and Chirons, but Fanuc controls are used on the Hwacheon. I can also set/operate CNC Diedesheims, Heller Millers and Weisser machines, which all use Siemens controls. In this role i can interpret and read from engineering drawings, operate pedestrian fork lift trucks, read the companies route sheets and route cards.
On the other hand i follow the health and safety rules and the quality standards we have set to achieve the quality targets. I work to hourly targets, which involve working to time scales, plus working to set up times which is 90 minutes. I have to plan how im going to set up the machine to achieve this, plus make sure i gather my tooling from the tool setter and double check the route sheet to ensure its all there.
