I moved to Edinburgh from Turkey to live with my wife in April 2021. I currently have a spouse visa which allows me to work in the United Kingdom. This is valid until June 2026. As at April 2026, I am in the process of applying for indefinite leave to remain.
I am an experienced Barman in Turkey, however, when I moved to Scotland, I wanted to try different jobs. I am very adaptable and willing to try any role. I am a fast learner and a reliable worker. I enjoy meeting people.
I work very well independently but can also work as part of a team.
Trolley Collector - Gyle Shopping Centre, Edinburgh - Edinburgh
(2021-11 - 2023-12)
I worked at the Gyle Shopping Centre as part of the ABM team. My main duty was to collect trolleys. My role included driving the trolley tractor and MULE. I obtained a certificate to drive a Green Machine Road Sweeper.
I also loaded the compactor with cardboard. When my supervisor was off on holiday, I covered his role. I fitted into this job quickly and easily. My supervisor and other work colleagues were impressed with my attitude to work.
I complete everything to the best of my ability. I work quickly and efficiently. I am friendly towards the customers and often had to help them find their cars in the car park or point them in the right direction of whichever shop they were looking for.
I enjoyed working at the Gyle and it was a good starting point for my first job in Edinburgh.
Car Park Maintenance - McDonalds, Edinburgh - Edinburgh
(2024-01 - 2025-11)
I worked at McDonalds in Corstorphine on the early shift which was 5am to 2pm. My duties included daily sweeping of the car park and walkways, weed control, jetwashing, cleaning windows and external ledges, maintaining the bin storage area, emptying and cleaning bins throughout the car park, removing chewing gum from walkways, litter picking, seasonal upkeep of landscape area and roof cleaning. I would also often assist with fixing any electronic machines that were broken, such as the drinks machine, grill machine and order screens.
I really enjoyed my time working at McDonalds. I was always friendly with the customers and they often commented on how happy I was and how clean the outside area was. I got on well with all crew members and the managers in particular were very impressed with my work ethic and my commitment to my role.
I required very little supervision to fulfill my daily role. I was a very reliable team member.
Field Based Waste Collection Operative (Driver) - Clearabee Ltd
(2026-01 - 2026-04)
I was keen to work for Clearabee as this was predominately a driving role. My shift started at 07:00 and would often finish after 20:00. My duties included driving a 3.5 tonne Luton van; carrying out daily vehicle checks; clearing and collecting waste from private and commercial properties; completing relevant paperwork; and taking the waste to the tip and recycling centres.
This was a physically demanding role, however, I enjoyed it very much. I would often work with a driver's mate, however, would also do a two man job alone if there were no driver's mate available. The customers were always very happy with my friendly and hard working attitude.
I have gained a great knowledge of various geographical areas in Scotland, including Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee, Inverness, Fort William, Galashiels to name but a few. Unfortunately, the van that I was allocated constantly had mechanical issues and the company failed to get these suitably fixed despite myself and work colleagues reporting these. I felt I had no option but to leave Clearabee as I feared for my safety.
I was expected to drive a vehicle which was not fit for purpose. I was extremely disappointed to leave Clearabee as I enjoyed
