Waiter (progressed to senior role) at Shalimar Harrogate (2021-08 – 2025-10)
I worked at Shalimar Restaurant for four years, where I progressed from a waiter taking basic orders and clearing tables to a more senior role with wider responsibilities. Over time, I developed strong customer service skills by learning the menu in detail, confidently describing dishes, and making tailored recommendations to customers. I became proficient in using the restaurant's ordering system, handling payments, and taking orders and bookings over the phone.
I was also trained to manage the service trolley, ensuring customers received the correct orders promptly while coordinating with the kitchen. In addition, I efficiently prepared and packed takeaway orders alongside in-house service, demonstrating my ability to multitask, work under pressure, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Overall, this role strengthened my communication, teamwork, and organisational skills in a fast-paced environment.
Elderly Care Support at Family (2023-01 – Present)
Over the past few years, I have been providing regular care and support for my elderly grandparents, assisting with their daily needs and wellbeing. My responsibilities include managing and reminding them to take their medication on time and monitoring when prescriptions are running low. I also help with preparing meals such as breakfast, accompanying them on shopping trips, and supporting them with everyday tasks to maintain their independence.
In addition, I offer patient and understanding support with their mental health, particularly when they experience memory difficulties by gently reminding them of important things and remaining calm and supportive when questions are repeated. This experience has strengthened my empathy, patience, sense of responsibility, and ability to provide compassionate care for older individuals.
Mental Health Awareness Support at Family (Present)
Through supporting a close family member who has experienced ongoing mental health challenges, I have developed a strong awareness of mental health issues and the importance of empathy, patience, and effective communication. This experience has strengthened my ability to listen actively, remain calm under pressure, and offer practical and emotional support when needed. It has also deepened my understanding of the value of mental health awareness and wellbeing support.
I am committed to promoting a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment where individuals feel comfortable expressing themselves and seeking support when needed.
