Motivated, punctual and driven. Those are three words I'd use to describe myself. Since completing my A-Level studies at Corby Business Academy, I have achieved my goals of going into future careers working closely alongside children and those with additional needs. Due to the friendly and caring nature I present, I am highly capable of communicating well with others and creating close relationships with those I work alongside.
June 2025 – Present
Within my role as a senior care assistant, I have many responsibilities. I support our residents with their morning personal care; washing or showering, toileting, getting dressed and ordering breakfast. I work 12-hour shifts for this job role, 8am-8pm.
Throughout this time, I support residents at mealtimes. Some residents require assistance with feeding, so I sit one-to-one and feed them as well as have a conversation. We have an end-of-life building within our nursing home, so these residents require further support due to declining cognitive abilities.
This heavily involves dementia residents. My job role has further improved my empathy and compassion, which are two major qualities required in my job role: the residents I care for can become frightened and need a lot of patience to properly support them in a way that’s optimal for them. On an odd occasion, I must put my first aid to use.
We have nurses on site, so I am only required to perform minimal first aid.
September 2023 – May 2025
In my role as a support worker, I have many tasks in which I carry out daily. I am expected to keep up to date on the care plans for the individuals I support, as well as to implement a tailored approach to their supports based on the contents of these. I work closely with my fellow colleagues each day, to allocate the tasks on shift. I have varied shifts each day
November 2022 – September 2023
Within this role, I helped to look after the children who attended the nursery, with the intent to help aid their development and learning as they grow; this consisted of helping to set up activities that target their learning needs, as well as aiding them through basics such as using utensils at meal times and the process of potty training. This role was also strongly team-related, in which I could rely on trusted colleagues to support me where I may have been unsure or may have required an extra set of hands, and this support was returned. I had a short period of time in which I was a one-to-one support for a SEN child, which allowed me to better my own skills and gain better knowledge on how to provide the optimum support for a child’s learning needs.
This role also involved interaction with the parents, in which I provided feedback regarding how the day had gone for their child. This feedback was usually an opportunity to give an overview of how the child did at nursery, as well as stipulate any important information that the staff in the room felt was important for the parent to know. Feedback can sometimes be challenging if a parent is concerned about anything, however it was my job to remain professional and polite so that the parent felt comfortable expressing these concerns.
Within this childcare job, I was required to change nappies, dish up and serve food, assist the children in going for naps (if this was something the parents wished their child to do), as well as other tasks that allowed for the children to enjoy their environment during the day. This role enabled me to develop and improve my patience and gave me close bonds with the children in the process.
December 2020 – October 2022
Within my current role, I take back-to-back inbound calls throughout the day, with the intentions of assisting many different types of customer queries and requests. This role is also strongly team-related, in which I can always rely on support from colleagues where required as well as provide that same support. As this job is heavily reliant on being computer literate, I have become accustomed to navigating new systems with ease and therefore developing my skill to adjust to various situations.
As with any role working with customers or members of the public, I am required to remain professional regardless of circumstance; this frequently results in having to remain calm in disputes, whilst doing my best to come to a resolution that prevents any escalations. This position has allowed me to uphold effective working relationships with fellow agents, the management and other departments within the call centre. I pride myself on being able to multitask, which I feel is an important quality in any role; for example, I can present active listening on calls whilst also taking notes, or setting up appointments and ordering parts.
I often utilise this skill to send emails over to a customer whilst still listening and answering any questions they may still have. Another important quality for any job is adhering to the policies and processes of the company in which you are employed by
Homebase, Market Harborough
August 2017 – January 2021
My role involved handling money, operating a till and communicating with customers to both promote sales and gain advice for improvements to the store. This was done on both checkouts and the shop floor, where possible.
In addition to this role, I also had a position where I ran the decorative department, in which I offered advice for paints and accessories as well as mixed custom colours for customers who required it. This was carried out alongside a responsibility to train new staff on operating the paint mixing machine safely and adequately to provide added customer support. Working in both departments at my last place employment gave me the right customer service and people's skills, as well as the ability to professionally handle difficult situations with either my set tasks or unsatisfied customers, whilst remaining composed.
Mentor, Corby Business Academy
Position: Year 7 Literacy Mentor
March 2018 – April 2018
This role involved working closely with a student in Year 7, to help them develop their literacy skills. The skills focused on were reading and spelling, and these were tested with activities that I had to plan for each weekly session. This voluntary role developed my problem-solving skills and as well as better patience.
