Diabetes Nurse Specialist, Band 7 at Notts City Care Partnership / Nottingham HC (2012-10 – 2014-08)

Worked full time for Nottingham CityCare Partnership as a Band 7 Diabetes Nurse Specialist till February 2014. I then reduced my hours there to accommodate a maternity cover for Nottingham Healthcare based at Retford as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist and did both jobs. The focus with Nottingham City Partnership was clinic work in GP practices.

The role with Nottingham Healthcare enabled me to focus on housebound patients in the community. The objective in both roles was the improvement of standards and quality of care for people with diabetes and I had face to face contact with people that have diabetes and assisted with their education which enabled them to self-manage their diabetes. I also made safe professional judgment on the medication being taken and tailoring it to their needs.

Represented the diabetes service on multi-professional developments which support community and primary health teams and I contributed to the team’s clinical practice and actively participate in clinical supervision. I promoted and maintained best practice that ensures the health and safety and security of self, patient, and colleagues in accordance with policies, procedures and professional standards.

  • Developed the training package to deliver to Community Band 5 Staff Nurses.
  • Using the Trend Document contributed to the training package for new team of four Band 6 nurses training to be Community Diabetes Specialist Nurses
  • The work within GP practice enables me to educate Practice Nurses supporting and educating them on new therapies and insulin initiation, assessing, planning and setting goals with patients to manage their disease more effectively.
  • Gained further training and experience in the latest diabetes therapies i.e. GLP1 treatment.
  • Set-up training packages to deliver to teams ranging from carers to community staff nurses and community matrons and I worked as a DESMOND educator for Nottingham Healthcare Partnership delivering education to Type two diabetics and people with positive Glucose Tolerance Tests.
