Shop assistant and cashier at TK Maxx (2024-11 – 2024-12)
This was a seasonal job, at this job I had to learn how to use a more complicated till as we had a broader range of tasks that needed doing for example; returns, payments with gift cards, payments that included splitting cash and card, adding money on to gift cards, loyalty cards etc. There were also a range of different tasks that needed to be done as a cashier like checking the returns cupboard, tidying up the queue line, making sure to remove any tags from items, bagging items, asking for ID (challenge 25) etc. I also had a chance to maintain the shop, which included keeping the shop tidy, for example, picking things up from the floor, making sure the clothing are in the correct size order and in the correct area on the rails, also making sure they are buttoned up or zipped up ready for customers, overall just making sure the items in the shop looked presentable to the best standard.
Additionally, I had experience of working in the fitting room, which included greeting customers, maintaining the clothing rails making sure they're ready to be put back out in the shop and also keeping the fitting room tidy at all times. I had to work at busy times as I was working Christmas time.
Retail Assistant at Snowdon Mountain Railway (2024-03 – 2025-10)
At Snowdon Mountain Railway I worked in the main shop, trading post and the ice cream van. Here, i had to work on the tills, stock up the shop, make sure the shop looked clean and tidy and also open up the shop in the morning and close it in the evening. This consisted of cleaning/mopping floors and cleaning the windows.
In this job we had to work long hours especially in the summer as the shop was busy. Therefore it helped me to learn how to work under pressure. At times i would be in the ice cream van on my own for around 3-4 hours with a large queue and other times i would be in the shop helping my colleagues to get rid of the queue.
This job was a great experience to develop my skills, especially social skills, as i had to communicate with customers and also members of staff. When in need of help i had to help my colleagues and find solutions to the problem or sometimes help to bag up items when it was very busy. Also, I would help customers by giving them advice and knowledge about the local area.
Retail Assistant at Llanberis Lake Railway (2022-08 – 2022-09)
During the summer holidays I worked at the Lake Railway in Llanberis as a retail assistant in the shop and at the till in the cafe. This work involved dealing with the public, giving advice on attractions and the local area. In the cafe we all had to work as a team delivering food. At times in the cafe it would become very busy and I would help out wherever I was needed the most in order to support my colleagues.
