Occupational Therapist – Maternity Cover - Chadwick Lodge & Eaglestone View - Milton Keynes (2025-07- 2026-07) As an Occupational Therapist at Chadwick Lodge and Eaglestone View, I work within a medium, low and acute secure forensic service providing specialist treatment programmes for service users detained under the Mental Health Act (1983). My caseload includes remand patients, those transferred from prison and individuals with a history of serious offending. I work as part of a consultant-led Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), contributing to evidence-based therapeutic interventions designed to reduce re-offending risk, maximise each patient's potential and support their progression into community settings wherever possible.
- Deliver both group and individual OT therapeutic programmes, building individual therapeutic rapport with service users to empower their recovery and promote independence.
- Carry out comprehensive OT assessments using standardised and non-standardised tools, including the Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool (MOHOST), to identify each patient's needs, strengths and goals.
- Plan and review personalised OT treatment programmes under clinical supervision, ensuring interventions are tailored and evidence-based.
- Apply and monitor Section 17 leave for each individual patient — a critical legal and safeguarding responsibility within forensic settings, as it governs a detained patient's lawful movement and must be rigorously overseen by all professionals involved in their care.
- Implement and uphold safeguarding protocols for service users with complex mental illness, ensuring all interactions — including conversations, Section 17 Community Leave and clinical decisions — are handled safely, thoroughly scrutinised and fully documented.
- Actively monitor and contribute to risk management processes, ensuring that all identified risks are assessed, clearly communicated across the MDT and regularly reviewed.
- Identify and action referrals where required, including to Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), physiotherapy and other in-house and external agencies, ensuring patients receive holistic and well-coordinated care.
- Recommend and facilitate appropriate equipment and adaptations for patients, including walking aids, bathroom chairs, specialist beds and other assistive devices, to support safe and independent functioning.
- Support the planning, evaluation and audit of clinical practices and protocols within the service.
- Maintain contemporaneous written and electronic records in line with professional and service standards, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation at all times.
- Accompany a qualified nurse to assess a potential patient at an open rehabilitation setting, gaining direct experience of cross-service assessment and admission processes.
