Over the past 17 years adult nursing has been the career I have persuaded. I am very passionate about, delivering high standards of evidence based nursing care to my patients. I am currently a band 5 staff nurse and for the past 2 years I have been working within the Haematology Day Unit. My current role involves administering chemotherapy, transfusing a variety of blood products and other supportive treatments. I am competent and confident in cannulation, venepuncture, venesection and caring for central lines. I have recently completed the module 'enhancing practice in cancer care' and am awaiting my results.
I feel like I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as I am able to interact effectively with a variety of patients and colleagues as needed. I consider myself to be reliable, punctual, self motivated, committed, enthusiastic and passionate about delivering high standards of care to patients I am not afraid to ask questions and seek advice if there is something I do not understand and am able to escalate patient care needs to the appropriate senior colleagues if I am unable to deal with them myself. I have had experience coordinating on the day unit in the past. A typical day on the day unit can see over 20 day case patients, not including patients accessing advice from the AOS line therefore prioritising and delegating workload is essential in the effective delivery of care and to ensure that the day unit runs smoothly.
I am able to work as part of a team which includes qualified and non qualified nurses, health care assistants, and administration team. I also support and encourage new and junior staff with their development, building on their experiences and competencies. I have a confident, enthusiastic and flexible approach and am receptive to change, welcoming any service improvement.
I am always keen to develop my leadership and management skills to be able to support and develop myself further.
