Currently interested in becoming a primary school teacher and thus I want to explore the option further by working as a classroom or teaching assistant. Already gained some experience of interacting with children and teenagers after working at a summer camp in Canada.
As a Land Floater Activity Specialist, I would help at the land-based activities at Camp Kanawana alongside the Activity Specialists which included Rock Climbing, Nature Walks and Arts & Crafts. Moreover, I would often OD or run these programs by myself and thereby chaperone the campers alongside the counsellors.
Climbing for example I would teach campers on the best techniques for climbing whilst belaying for them alongside the counsellors for that cabin/tent groups. I would also explain the main rules of the camp’s rock wall and show them how to belay. During the nature walks, we would either play scavenger hunts around the camp or hike towards the Valley, the Log or Salamander Stream where we would look for animals/plants or play various games related to nature such as Foxfoot, Find the Tree and Shelter Building.
Furthermore, with A&C I would often allow campers to do what they wanted whether it was drawing, painting, making bracelets and clay modelling as long they stayed within my site in the A&C room.
Recent education includes achieving an MSc Degree in International Relations at the University of Glasgow and a MA in History-Politics at the University of Aberdeen.
