I am currently a Data Protection Paralegal Apprentice and DSAR redactor for Data Protection People. My work closely aligns with the regulations outlined in the UK General Data Protection Regulation. Within this, I am currently midway through my CILEX Level 3
Paralegal course, specialising in Criminal Law and
Criminal Litigation, which I am pursuing through
Damar Training.
During my time on the support desk at DPP, I have worked closely with the UK
GDPR understanding its principles and requirements. In this role, my main purpose was to guide our clients with their data protection queries. This typically included:
Developing and reviewing data protection policies, procedures, and guidelines tailored to the organisation's needs and ensuring they align with UK GDPR requirements. This included Privacy Policies, Data Processing Agreements, Data
Protection Impact Assessments, Data Sharing Agreements and Legitimate
Interest Assessments.

Advising and providing guidance on topics such as data protection principles,
lawful basis, CCTV, cookies, consent, personal data breaches, retention, data subject rights and all-around general compliance.

Phoning clients to understand potential UK GDPR issues and obtain relevant information.

Having to do regular legal research to ensure I could provide a sufficient service and that my knowledge is up to date to undergo more complex cases.

Working with the DSAR team at DPP my role was to review and redact data contained in Subject Access Requests within the scope of the law and advise on any exemptions that may be relevant.
