I am a mother to three children, living in Woking with my partner. I hold a full UK driving license, I am a non smoker and currently work in a school as a medical/learning support assistant. I am passionate and enthusiastic about my career and feel I am professional and competent in all aspects of my role. I have good organisational skills and pride myself on having an open minded and nurturing personality.

LSA (Learning Support Assistant) - Sythwood primary school

(2022-01)

I currently work as an LSA at the school supporting children in the classroom. I started my Sythwood journey supporting a boy with unstable diabetes, AuDHD and a visual impairment on a 1:1 basis. I was responsible for assisting to update and amend his care plan as the need arose and attending annual reviews.

I was lucky enough to follow him through to year 6 before he left for secondary school. I have since been working in year 5 with children with multiple learning and SEMH needs which developed my interest for pastoral care and behaviour management. I also have a keen interest in the foster care system and have supported a few children who are in foster care.

I am familiar with the social care system, role of the family support worker and team around the family. I have been helping a young boy with anger management and created a workbook for him guided by the program, 'what to do when my temper flares.'

• Work with the DSL and safeguarding team, mainly reporting concerns
• Make entries to CPOMS which is the internal monitoring and reporting system the school uses
• Part of the behaviour team and use restorative practice on a daily basis
• Employ varied communication skills in daily role
• Familiar with safeguarding and up to date with all mandatory internal training

Staff Nurse - HMP Highdown

(2020-09 - 2022-01)

I worked full time at this establishment moving to a bank contract when my mum had a stroke. I thoroughly enjoy offender care and have regained a lot of my acute clinical skills and emergency care skills.

• Deliver medications to a house block of 300 men and attend to chronic disease management
• Work on emergency response, attending to the needs of any of the 1400 inmates when the need arises
• Conduct first night health care check on all prisoners being admitted or released from the establishment, which includes mental health screening

Staff Nurse - Woking hospice

(2014-12 - 2020-01)

I worked two nights a week at the hospice. I worked alongside other staff nurses and hcas, sometimes taking charge of the hospice, throughout the night ensuring patients with life limiting illness' and their relatives are comfortable and supported throughout their highs, lows and last days of life.

• Administer prescribed medications and prn medications should new symptoms arise during the night
• Assist patients with continence aids, maintaining skin integrity and pressure areas, oral hygiene
• Sit with clients during the night for company
• Carry out equipment and safety checks on hoists and drug/blood fridges
• Perform last offices, verification of expected death, care for people who are opioid naive or opioid toxic
• Extensive experience in delivering bad news

Home Carer / Staff Coordinator - Longdene homecare

(2013-09 - 2014-12)

When my youngest child started full time school I started work as a home carer for Longdene. It was interesting caring for clients in their own environment rather than a hospital. In the July of 2014 I was promoted to staff coordinator. I still attended clients scheduled visits and carried out care but I also was responsible for the staff.

• Assist clients with all aspects of daily living in their homes, assisted them with mobilising, managing incontinence, dressing, bathing etc.
• Carry out staff appraisals, spot checks, mentor new staff and support them within their roles

Staff Nurse - Acute medical unit, Ysbyte Glan Clwyd

(2007-02 - 2007-08)

Here I worked alongside a multidisciplinary team caring for acutely ill medical patients who had come through A+E. Patients would have a variety of medical complaints, e.g. chest pain, vomiting, abdominal pain, overdose, reduced mobility, falls etc. Patients would either be stabilized and discharged to a ward for further treatment or given treatment in amu and discharged home. I went on maternity leave in August 2007.

Staff Nurse - Intensive care unit Ysbyte Glan Clwyd

(2006-11 - 2007-02)

From ward 11, I got entered into a 3 month rotation of ICU and amu (acute medical unit). I learnt a lot in intensive care about blood gases, care of the unconscious patient, artificial ventilation etc. I did find it wasn't for me though. I prefer to care for a number of patients rather than just one and feel a lot of the psychological care in intensive care is towards the relatives as a lot of the time the patients are asleep.

Staff Nurse - Ward 11 (gastro/med) Ysbyte Glan Clwyd

(2006-02 - 2006-11)

Ward 11 was where I chose to do my management placement and then was fortunate enough to get my first job as a qualified staff nurse here. I worked alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide a high standard of care to acutely ill individuals. Pre and post op care for investigatory procedures such as OGD, to invasive procedures such as having a stent fitted.

We cared for alcoholics and drug abusers who required paracentesis, fitted nasal gastric tubes, peg feeds, TPN feeds and did catheterisation to name a few procedures. This is along side providing psychosocial care to these patients. Unfortunately, in November, the hospital had to make cut backs and decided to merge ward 11 with ward 9 and some of the staff, including myself, got re-deployed with in the hospital.

• Complete admissions, discharges, attend ward rounds
• Do a rolling rota of day and night shifts

Carer - St Michaels nursing home

(2002-01 - 2003-11)

The residents here had a wide variety of nursing needs. Parkinson's, peg feeds, dressings, colostomy's etc. I was a carer working alongside nurses in assisting clients with all aspects of daily living.

I became familiar with setting up peg feed regime's, stoma care, dysphagia, clients with no mobility, and clients with leg ulcers. It was completely different to what I had experienced before, although the principles of care remained the same, the dependency was far greater. Although I had enjoyed my work before and the clients, I realised caring was definitely my vocation, it was at St Michaels that I became passionate about it and was eager to progress my career.

Once I had completed my NVQ 3, I went to do my nurse training. I did however stay on the bank at St Michaels until the November of 2003 and only left to concentrate on my studies.

Carer / Activities Coordinator - Bod Euryn emi residential home

(2001-01 - 2002-01)

Bod Euryn is a 30 bedded residential care home with a 15 bed secure EMI unit attached to it. The clients living here had different types of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. Their needs varied depending on disease progression and I assisted them with all aspects of daily living.

I was activities coordinator here and provided clients with games, memory cards and organized days out. Whilst here I completed the greys dementia course, this gave me an insight into different methods of coping with disease progression. I also completed the boots medication administration course, enabling me to administer clients medication from a blister pack system.

Whilst here I decided I would like to progress my career even more and decided to look for a home where the residents had a higher nursing need whilst I completed my level 3 NVQ.

Carer - Como nursing home

(2000-01 - 2001-01)

I started my career in this 17 bedded care home at the age of 16. I was given full training as a carer and assisted elderly residents with all aspects of daily living. I practiced moving and handling techniques and provided stimulating activities for the residents. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Como and soon became intrigued to discover clients with a greater dependency.
