I'm a lifelong animal lover having kept dogs my whole life and am looking for a career change into animal care. After almost twenty years caring for people in the NHS, I want to put the same compassion, patience and attention to detail into caring for animals — and I'm drawn to this role because it genuinely matters to me. My nursing and clinical-research background lines up closely with the requirements of a role with your organisation.

I'm trained and experienced in safe manual handling and in caring for patients who are anxious, unwell or in pain. I work to strict hygiene and infection-control standards, I'm comfortable keeping a clinical environment clean, safe and well-ordered, and I'm used to being a steady, dependable part of a busy clinical team. I've supported patients and families through some of their hardest days and taken charge of a unit when several things were going wrong at once, and I'd bring that same calm, kindness and eye for detail to this role.

• Build trust quickly with anxious patients — explaining each step clearly and gaining informed consent, the same calm, honest communication that reassures a worried owner.
• Carry out baseline visits and eligibility screening, observing closely and flagging anything out of the ordinary.
• Collect, label and handle laboratory samples accurately and safely.
• Keep precise records in line with local guidelines, standard operating procedures and study protocols — where accuracy is never optional.

• Monitored clinical trials in haematology and oncology, working with both adults and children, from study start-up through to close-out.
• Checked that every procedure followed strict regulatory standards and protocols, with patient safety and data integrity as the priority.
• Accounted for investigational medicines, reconciling supplies dose by dose with full accuracy.
• Reviewed records and documentation meticulously, spotting and resolving discrepancies — the attention to detail that keeps a regulated clinical setting safe.
• Built strong, trusting working relationships with hospital sites and their teams.

Staff Nurse (Band 5), High Dependency Unit - Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley - Paisley

• Communicated closely with patients, their families and colleagues to get the best outcome for each patient.
• Monitored vital signs and recognised early when a patient was deteriorating.
• Kept thorough, accurate records and carried out risk assessments throughout each patient's care.
• Followed local protocols and the NMC Code of Conduct, accountable for assessing, planning, delivering and reviewing care.
• Provided urgent and emergency care, multitasking and prioritising under real pressure.
• Mentored and trained junior staff and student nurses, and frequently took charge of the unit.

• Took charge of an understaffed ward through the COVID-19 pandemic — calm, approachable and quick to learn new procedures and equipment — and supported colleagues who found the change harder.
• Received thank-you cards from the families of patients I helped through the loss of a loved one.

• Cared for a patient through a cardiac arrest who survived and was discharged two weeks later.
