I have been a registered Nurse now for 38 years . I have worked predominantly in the acute care setting, I have been lucky enough to travel working overseas for a number of years. Up until 2019 I was a Sister in Emergency care having held the position for 15 years , I had a short career break to take care of my elderly parents who both were diagnosed within a short time of each other with Dementia , having had the privilege of looking after them both through this illness , I took the decision to take my career in a different direction .
I completed my return to practice course at University and have worked in older peoples care ever since mainly in the care home enviroment , I am passionate about ensuring those we care for receive empathetic compassionate care that we ensure dignity is maintained throughout that this chapter of their lives remains one full of love smiles and laughter . I truly am passionate about my role and feel so priviledged to be a part which if we are honest is manys final chapter . I genuinely care about those in my care. by the time i left we had I have held different roles prior to my current role I was involved in a relatively new home I was employed to try and help improve standards as the management were restructured due to poor leadership and poor standards their Cqc rating had been assessed as inadequate in all areas , I was employed as Deputy Manager and was responsible in retraining the care staff and trained Nurses and to support the Manager , I produced the monthly news letter arranged for relatives to be encouraged to be more involved in all aspects of the home , By the time I left the CQC re evaluated and the home within 6 months had improved dramatically and received a good in all areas.Currently I am working in another relatively new Care home, bur I am unhappy in the role and feel I am not using my skills and experience in the way I find rewarding.
