Health care assistant - Ringway mews care home
(2020-06)
In this job, my roles and responsibilities differed; from dementia care to residential. In a day I would assist residents with personal care, I would then use the correct equipment, depending on their condition, to help them move to either a chair in the room or the lounge where the residents sit to do their daily activities. I would perform personal care more than once as many residents need this support.
I would put out and serve food to the residents, some residents were on different food diets which are assessed by the SALT team. I would assist residents with eating if they were unable too. Throughout the day communication is used a lot, talking to the residents makes there day a little bit better, it may only be 10 minutes but it helps.
Before the end of a shift residents will be offered to go to bed. Again, the correct equipment would be used to do this. Paper work is important, each day food and fluid dairy's, bed rails, positional changes, personal hygiene and daily notes have to be completed.

I visited this hospital every Monday in order to complete 100 hours of work placement which was needed for me to pass my course. As I was older this time the duties provided were different. I gained a lot of independence and trust from the staff on the ward, this allowed me to take part in new things.
One week I was able to take the observations of a patient, I watched canulas be Inserted and sat in on dressing clinics, learning about infections. As this hospital is a specialist hospital I learnt a lot about different types of cancer and their causes. I started the course of placement doing reception work which helped build my confidence within the work place.
Work experience - Surgical Day Care Unit - The Christie Hospital
(2016-06 - 2016-06)

Due to these duties and many more I have gained more knowledge and transferable skills such as confidentiality and built further on my confidence.
