Physician Associate with an MSc in Physician Associate Studies and a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences, with broad clinical exposure across primary care, acute and specialist hospital services, mental health, pharmacy and care settings. Trainee Physician Associate at Arcadian Gardens Surgery (2025-01 – 2026-06)
During my primary care placement, I gained experience assessing undifferentiated presentations across all age groups, including minor illnesses and acute and chronic conditions across respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, dermatological and mental health presentations. I developed my clinical reasoning through focused history-taking, examinations, formulating differential diagnoses and discussing investigations and management plans with supervising clinicians. This allowed me to manage appropriate presentations independently under supervision, helping to reduce the clinical burden on GPs while recognising red flags and escalating concerns appropriately.
I was actively involved in reviewing long-term conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, asthma and COPD, supporting medication optimisation, treatment adherence, lifestyle modification and preventative healthcare. I gained practical experience using primary care systems including Docman and Abtrace to review results, clinical correspondence and patient information, ensuring appropriate follow-up, safety-netting and continuity of care. I also developed an understanding of QOF (Quality and Outcomes Framework) and how effective long-term condition monitoring, accurate coding, timely reviews and preventative interventions can contribute to improving both QOF performance and patient outcomes.
My placement increased my awareness of CQC standards and their importance in maintaining safe, effective and patient-centred services. Working alongside GPs, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team strengthened my ability to provide holistic, evidence-based care, communicate effectively and contribute to the efficient delivery of General Practice services.
Trainee Physician Associate at Lister Hospital (2025-04 – 2026-04)
Rotations included Cardiology, Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Respiratory, General Surgery, Endocrinology, A&E, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Throughout my hospital placements, I gained experience managing a broad range of acute and long-term conditions across different medical specialities, which strengthened my clinical assessment and decision-making skills. I regularly took focused patient histories, performed relevant examinations, formulated differential diagnoses, and discussed appropriate investigations and management with supervising clinicians.
I developed confidence in reviewing blood results, imaging, and other clinical investigations, identifying concerning features and escalating patients appropriately. Working across different specialities also improved my ability to consider the patient as a whole and recognise how underlying systemic conditions may present with symptoms in other areas. My placements involved regular participation in ward rounds, MDT discussions and conversations with patients and their families.
I presented cases to senior clinicians, maintained clear and accurate clinical documentation, and developed my ability to explain diagnoses, investigations and treatment plans in an accessible and compassionate way. I also gained experience communicating sensitively around mental health, chronic illness and palliative care, while maintaining a patient-centred approach.
Trainee Physician Associate at Saffron Court & Aston Ward, Lister Hospital (2026-06 – 2026-07)
This placement provided exposure to a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorders and dementia whilst working in the elderly persons memory clinic. I conducted mental state examinations and risk assessments, and contributed to biopsychosocial management plans incorporating pharmacological, psychological, and social interventions. I participated in multidisciplinary team meetings alongside psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists to support holistic care planning.
I developed skills in de-escalation, safeguarding, and patient education on understanding illness, treatment adherence, and relapse prevention.
