I have many years experience working in psychiatric unit, people with autism and prison service

I have 6 years experience working as a prison officer .My duties require me to communicate with prisoners and their families in a professional and respectful manner at all times whilst constructively challenging negative behaviours and de-escalating potentially violent situations

I am a fluent native Polish speaker and this often leads to me being asked to communicate with others whose first language isn't english.

In my role I am resposible for a large number of adults presenting with challenging beviour either as a result of the prison enviornment and the current culture of divide between prisoners and prison staff, as a result of a number of varying degrees of mental health issues or as a result of an incident which may cause a normally polite and respectul person to suddenly become challenging. In all sitations I have a number of years experience in dealing with this. I am confident in my abilities to manage this with effective communication and although I am trained to physically intervene should the need arise, I appreciate this is a last resort and must only ever take place when all other options are exhausted. I am able to quickly build a good rapport with even the most challenging prisoners and I find this is very helpful.
