Duties: 

- Operating within the National Lighthouse Lab at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (Glasgow) to support COVID-19 testing in accordance with UK’s National Testing Programme.

• Extracting viral RNA involving multiple plate filling steps for various washes and ultimately elution.
• Coordinating sample transfer, lysis and viral inactivation in deep well plates under Category 2.
• Performing qPCR on clinical samples, including production of a PCR master mix under appropriate conditions.
• Adhering to documented procedures (SOP) for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded with accuracy on LIMS.
• Analysing and interpreting data/test results according to standard procedures and presenting findings with accuracy.
• Ensuring that health and safety legislation is maintained at all times, and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
