Mariama Mohamed

A UX designer and researcher with a First Class background in qualitative research and academic training, now applied to digital product design. My work in Higher Education, running research methods curricula, supervising dissertations, and conducting semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, built the same core skillset UX research is built on: uncovering user needs, synthesising evidence into clear insight, and communicating findings to diverse stakeholders. I've since applied this foundation to end-to-end UX/UI case studies, taking products from research and journey mapping through to high-fidelity prototypes in Figma.

I bring a rare combination of rigorous research method, hands-on design practice, and the ability to translate complexity into clarity for users and for stakeholders alike.

Designing and delivering research-led curricula for a diverse, international user base, translating complex material into clear, accessible experiences.

• Designed learning experiences around user (student) needs, applying research methodologies and iterative feedback to continuously improve how content was structured and delivered.
• Reviewed and evaluated research proposals, dissertations and data analysis for clarity, rigour and usability of findings, equivalent to critiquing design work against research evidence.
• Translated complex academic and research concepts into plain, accessible language for an international audience, the same content-design discipline needed for onboarding flows and UI copy.
• Built rapport and trust through one-to-one sessions, drawing out needs and pain points much as a UX researcher would in a user interview.

• Translated lived experience into actionable research questions and recommendations, producing accessible outputs for non-specialist audiences, the same translation work UX research reporting requires.
• Built strong stakeholder engagement and knowledge-exchange skills working across three university partners and community groups.

Dissertation Supervisor & Writing Guidance - De Montfort University

• Mentored students through the full research lifecycle, from methodology selection (qualitative & quantitative) through data collection, thematic analysis and final write-up.
• Reviewed research for methodological rigour and clarity of presentation, and applied theoretical frameworks to deepen interpretation of findings.
• Identified at-risk cases early and implemented targeted, proactive support, the same problem-spotting instinct needed in usability testing and iterative design.

Independent Researcher - De Montfort University

(2016 - 2018)

"Exploring the Educational Experiences of Black Males in Britain," an 11,000-word qualitative case study on race and educational underachievement.

• Designed and ran a full primary research project end-to-end: literature review, purposive sampling, semi-structured interviews, thematic analysis and write-up, the complete UX research cycle, applied to a sensitive, real-world topic.
• Applied Critical Race Theory as an analytical lens, demonstrating the ability to use theoretical frameworks to generate meaningful, actionable insight from qualitative data.
• Awarded 83% (First Class), the highest grade in the cohort, for research that gave a marginalised group a platform to voice their experience.
